L’amande douce est le fruit de certaines variétés d’amandiers (il existe aussi des amandes amères, qui peuvent contenir une substance toxique). L’amandier est un bel arbre originaire du bassin méditerranéen, également cultivé de façon intensive en Californie. Sa floraison est précoce et ses fleurs blanches ou roses laissent place à un fruit vert tout duveteux, à l’intérieur duquel se trouve la fameuse amande. L’amande pressée produit l’huile d’amande douce, de couleur jaune pâle et légèrement parfumée. Elle a tendance à rancir avec le temps. On l’utilise beaucoup en cosmétique comme base hydratante et nourrissante, notamment pour les mains ou les pieds. C’est en effet l’amie des peaux sèches ou irritées, car elle pénètre bien, et aide aussi à fortifier la couche la plus externe de l’épiderme et le film hydrolipidique. En améliorant l’élasticité de la peau, elle permet d’éviter les vergetures et les signes de vieillesse. Elle est aussi riche en antioxydants.
